Dietician Deploys Suspicious Hydration Station
We arrive at the dining room at exactly four fifteen. The early arrival is a strict tactical necessity. Overnight, Brenda from Omaha struck again. A towering cylindrical apparatus now dominates the entranceway. It is a mandatory hydration station, filled to the brim with chilled water and wildly disproportionate wedges of floating grapefruit. The sudden appearance of unrestricted citrus is deeply unsettling.
Arthur adjusts his bifocals and approaches the plastic cylinder with the extreme caution of a bomb squad technician. He taps his aluminum cane against the reservoir, listening intently to the acoustic resonance. After a tense moment, he declares the floating grapefruit wedges are structurally compromised. He calculates they will completely disintegrate within the hour, clogging the narrow spigot and causing a catastrophic flash flood near the salad bar.
Martha leans in close to inspect the bobbing rinds. She remains absolutely convinced that Brenda replaced our reliable tap water with a highly concentrated corporate serum. She theorizes this acidic brew is specifically engineered to dissolve our expensive dental adhesives before the evening meatloaf is served. She completely refuses to touch the communal lever, wrapping a freshly hoarded napkin around her index finger to protect herself from the allegedly corrosive condensation.
Harold ignores the suspicious fruit entirely. His eyes are locked on a slightly loose rubber gasket at the base of the dispensing mechanism. While Arthur and Martha loudly debate the exact pH levels of Brenda's contaminated water, Harold casually works the gasket free. With a fluid, practiced motion, he slips the rubber ring into his cardigan pocket, adding it to his sprawling private collection of purloined dining room hardware.
The teenage server eventually approaches our table holding a standard pitcher of ice water, visibly trembling under our collective, judgmental stares. Arthur immediately demands to know the exact agricultural origin of the grapefruit, heavily implying that Brenda is sourcing substandard produce to fund her windowless bunker in Omaha. Harold utilizes the server's momentary panic to seamlessly unscrew the plastic lid from the water pitcher and drop it directly into his lap.
